Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Sizes are compared directly or visually, not compared by measuring. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
Recognize squares, rectangles, trapezoids, quadrilaterals, pentagons, and hexagons. Know that squares are special types of rectangles, having all sides equal. Understand that all squares are rectangles, but not vice-versa. In order to recognize trapezoids, we must introduce the notion of parallel. We can do this vaguely, such as Sal does in the video “Recognizing shapes.”
